Hello again…

Been a while since I last posted a blog, and it’s about time I rectified that.

These last couple months have been exciting to me, even if they seem lackluster to others.  I visited Tennessee again in September, met some great people and helped support Chiari Research by walking and raising some money.  I celebrated a year of relatively symptom free living from Chiari on the 21st this month.  I also started a new support group on Facebook for local Chiari patients recently.  In the tech/geek side of my life, I’ve been using the iPhone 4 (yep, jumped ship) and got a new laptop in recent months (HP/Win7).

Just a few days past 6 months ago

So my 6 month Chiari surgery anniversary was a week ago, the 21st.

I’ve had a couple headaches every now and then, but they weren’t anything compared to my pre-op headaches.  Talking daily and painful to say the least.  Pain from coughing and laughing was excruciating at best.   Felt like someone took a pair of ice picks got them red hot and stabbed them into the top of my neck, held them for 10 seconds or so and then ripped them out.  Pain would go away, but some remnant was always there.

So, this is my blog.  Fair warning, I’m a nerd, I like music, I like to talk in run-on sentences, and some of what I say will be long winded.  You’ve been warned.

Today marks 8 weeks since surgery.  On 9/23 I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation (CM) with a Syrinx.  CM is a condition in which before I was born, my brain didn’t form correctly.  Part of my Cerebellum formed outside of the skull, through the Foramen Magnum, which is the hole in the skull that is normally only occupied by the Spinal Cord.
